Memorial Day Weekend

I hope everyone had a great and safe Memorial Day! I am a little late but here goes....... thank you to all of the servicemen and women that have served, am serving and will serve our country! Thank you to my Daddy for his service in the army. I love you Daddy!

Memorial Day weekend and holiday was a blast! Hubby has been working long hours and been gone into the wee hours of the mornings, only to sleep a couple of hours and go right back to work. It has been a little chaotic around here. We could wait for Saturday to come.

We got up and took the boys to the zoo (memorial Day weekend)Saturday morning and they had a blast. We saw all of the animals and rode one of the trains through the zoo as well. We had a picnic lunch while there (that I had packed ahead of time) and it was so yummy. The boys really seemed to enjoy that as well.

On the way back home we stopped at my cousin's farm and picked 2 gallons of strawberries and some fresh onions and cucumbers (ours are not ready yet). Saturday night we had takeout from our favorite cafe just down the road. It was so yummy! They have the best homemade onion rings ever!!!!

Sunday was busy as well. I got up and cooked breakfast for everyone, including my parents. Then I cooked enough food (squash, peas, greens, okra, corn, cornbread and slaw) for my father-in-law for several days and packed it in the cooler. Then we all got ready and headed to church, on the way back we stopped by to visit my father-in-law.

It was past lunch time , so we headed to Burger king with coupons in hand and had lunch. After a quick trip to CVS and Wal-Mart before leaving town we headed home. We put the boys down for a nap and relaxed for awhile by ourselves. When the boys awoke we picked up my parents and headed to Top Hat bbq for supper. It was supper delicious. We all had bbq plates, salad and fries. They make their own Thousand Island dressing and it is soooooo good! I also had a Sun Drop (my favorite soft drink as a child) and then we had fried apple pies a la mode! Yum!

We finally made it home and gave Monkey a bath. Tiger had gotten one earlier in the day due to poop incident that somehow made it's way onto the carpet (ground in), walls and so on so forth. Then it was on to bed. Honey and I settled in for a Billy Graham special, then on to bed for us.

Monday was a day of work and fun! Hubby was off from work. Here's what we did:

mowed the grass
weedeated
weeded around the house
washed the Durango (the boys swam during this)
swam with the boys (in my clothes and all)
picked squash
put up strawberries
cleaned the front porch off
rearranged some things in the house
watered plants and moved some inside

Then we had company for supper. the menu :

Hebrew National Fat free (97%) Beef Franks
Black Angus Burgers
fresh cauliflower (from the garden) and dip
cantaloupe
baked beans
corn on the cob
sweet iced tea
fresh lemonade
spaghetti salad
homemade strawberry ice cream

It was great and so was the company! We had a blast.

Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend as well!
Blessings!!!!!!

Surgery Tomorrow

UPDATE................
The surgery went well. We are home. The doctor found another hernia/hydrocele, on the left side this time. Monkey has an incision on the left side and then in the bellybutton. He is resting comfortably in his Daddy's arms right this minute. Please continue for his pain to be minimal. I will post lightly in the next few days to keep you updated. Other posting will continue in a few days. Thanks for the prayers and understanding. Blessings on you all!

I am feeling some better, but it has been hectic getting ready for tomorrow.

Monkey will have exploratory surgery tomorrow. We have to be at the hospital at 6am. He will be put under for this. They will got through his navel to see what is going on with all of the swelling in his private area. If they find something they will more than likely have to come out, make another incision and repair it.

Please keep us in your prayers and I will try to update as soon as I can. I will not have internet access at the hospital.

Thank you for your prayers......we are ready for him to feel better and be well! This will be his 3rd surgery since February (8th to be exact).

Have a blessed day!

Here are some........make that a bunch of pictures
of the "garden" and the yummy stuff growing!

Here is my Daddy picking squash for the market.

We picked the first broccoli last week.

The cauliflower is not quite ready yet.

The rows are very long. They go to the wood line
way down there. This is the five rows of cantaloupes.

This is the zucchini. there are just a
few blooms for now.

We grow lots of tomaotes too. They are in the
top of the pic. Some of the peppers qare in the bottom.
We stake pepper too.....bell gets so tall.

Here is the cabbage. It still needs a
few more days as well.

Here are a few baskets of the green plums my
Daddy took to the market. The first picking yielded
about 35 baskets (8 quart size). Believe it or not
these are a delicacy in the South! Yes, they are sour!!!

More cabbage........aren't th heads beautiful?!

This is my Mom picking squash! She would have
a southern fit if she knew I posterd this!

Refreshed, Reconnected and Ready!

Good Morning! I am back! I did not take my laptop for those of you wondering. We had a wonderful trip and feel so much better.

We left Friday afternoon when Hubby got home from work. We dropped off the boys and went on our way. We stopped and had supper at our favorite restaurant (Top O' the River). Then on to Atlanta. We stayed at this Embassy Suites (Friday and Saturday nights) and it was fabulous! We got up and went to the grand atrium for a fully cooked to order breakfast each morning (included in the room price). They had omelets, bacon, ham, sausage, eggs, grits, hash browns, toast, bagels, english muffins, muffins, doughnuts, cereals, every kind of fruit, six kinds of juice, hot chocolate, coffees, hot teas, iced teas and soft drinks. All you can eat kind of got me off of the diet path. I twas so yummy!

Each evening they have a manager's reception with appetizers as well as cocktails and soft drinks. We did not get to attend but heard it was great. The three glass elevators overlooked the grand atrium for a wonderful view.

Our suite was gorgeous. It was a living room and king bedroom divided by the kitchen area and bath. There were two televisions (not that we watched much tv), microwave, coffee pot and refrigerator.

Saturday we went to Turner Field and took the tour and it was great as well. After the tour we went and had lunch at The Ole Mill Steakhouse and back to the hotel for a rest before leaving for the Braves game. We got back to Turner Field for the game 3 hours or so before it started. It was such a great experience!!! Our seats were right behind 3rd base and just 13 rows off of the field. We had supper there, consisting of typical ballpark food. We had cokes, hot dogs and peanuts. The price was steep, but the experience was worth every penny! The braves got beat BUT it was awesome! By the way I do not like baseball, I have never watched a whole game on tv, but I went for my Hubby! Now, I am now a true baseball fan though. I truly enjoyed every aspect of the game!

Sunday morning we arose and went to breakfast, then checked out and rove home. We arrived right after noon and visited with my parents for awhile, packed up our boys and went home. We enjoyed ourselves, immensely but am glad to be back. Home sweet home.........nothing like it!

We never had to worry one moment about our boys, they were so well taken care if by my parents. What a blessing to have such wonderful grandparents for our little miracles!

I hope to get some pictures downloaded and up tomorrow but no time today. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and will have a blessed day today! Blessings!!!!!!

Taking a Step Back

My name is Marva and I am addicted to blogging. Don't laugh......I am serious. My life is so chaotic right now. Yet, I still "need" to blog. I feel compelled to comment on every single post of my blogging buddies (most of the time). I cannot keep up at this pace. AND I won't!

My boys have reached an all time high of terror and destruction. Yes, I am serious. One of them actually busted his bedroom door into 2 pieces and left it hanging by the hinges in the middle of the night. The other son seems to beat his forehead into the wall when he doesn't get the attention he "thinks" he needs. This is 24/7 seems.

My house is a wreck (or at least in my eyes) and everything seems out of sorts.

My husband and I both need to reconnect. We both are feeling neglected by the other. That is one reason for our little trip coming up this weekend. We need a break.......together......without kids and distractions. Last night while searching for a hotel room online....I was actually looking for one with free internet use.......so I could blog while there. I have lost my stinkin' mind.

I prayed over this and this is where God has brought me. I need space and time. I am going on a blogging break. I will see you next Monday the 19th. I may read but am resisting the urge to comment.

I had actually thought about not even leaving this post, but if I wouldn't eant you to do that and be worried and wonder where in the world you are. I love you all. I have quite a week planned and this weekend is going to be just wonderful! I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day and will continue to have a wonderful week!

I am looking forward to the freetime but will miss you! Many blessings sweet friends!

Storms Are Comin'

It is suppose to be a stormy day today. No rain as of yet, but how I dread it (storms that is). We are still having wondeful twister season here in Bamaland.

The speech therapist is coming today as well. The boys have started verbalizing more and identifing more objects with words. They have started saying more words in general as well.

Thankfully I am cooking no supper tonight. I fixed spaghetti for us and the Tucker family last night. We have leftovers since hubby got in so late and did not want to eat. My parents were thrilled to bits about there supper of meatloaf (it was frozen in the freezer), butterbeans (cooked in the crockpot) and turnip greens (heated up from the freezer).

Southerner asked why seperate meals...... Well my Dad needed the vitamin k from the greens for his blood. Also, the meatloaf had thawed somewhat from the freezer going out (written in yesterday's post). The sauce had already thawed and I thought I would just cook it.

We probably will go to my parents before the weather heads this way. Until then I am tackling the pile of laundry and spending time with the boys. The therapist should be here at 10am.

Hope you all have a blessed day! Don't forge to enter the contest!!!

Wading It Out Wednesday

ADDED: After $106.36 and a new relay box , the refrigerator is running smoothly! Praise the Lord!!!

Yesterday Bulldog had two doctor's appointments and we went to eat at Waffle House afterwards. Then he took me to a couple of CVS stores. I scored some great bargains there. He got all good news at the new primary care physician. He also saw a new ortho doc, whom he really likes. He is going for another MRI Monday and will see him then on Tuesday. We are hoping for some type of pain relief for his knee. They started him on a new anti-inflammatory as well.

Last night our primary refrigerator went out (freezer first and then the fridge). We had to cart some of the frozen stuff over to my parents and had room for the rest in our other fridge/freezer combo in the utility room. I also made room for all of the fridge stuff in there. I am calling the repairman this morning. Praise the Lord for the extra fridge!!!

I need to got to Wal-Mart and CVS today as well as the Piggly Wiggly and the Post Office. It is not suppose to rain until tomorrow, BUT it seems the weathermen missed it again. It is sprinkling here now.

I have supper to cook and take to my friend C.T. Her daughter had surgery yesterday and had to stay overnight in the hospital. I am cooking spaghetti, salad and garlic cheese bread for them.

I also am cooking supper for my parents. They will be having meatloaf, turnip greens and butter beans.

Then I need to do our supper, iron, do laundry and unload the dishwasher. The boys are a little moody today. They have whined and cried most of the morning. They are content with peg puzzles (for a moment)!

I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday and many blessings!!!

Look for a Mother's Day giveaway later today!!!! It is a good one!!!

Oh and Heather......I will get you a post on menu planning soon and the meme for babychaser and mykidsmom and a little something about decorations for you Southerner.

Praises!

Monkey's foot is much better, showing NO sign of injury as of last night! Praises to the Lord!

We had a wonderful weekend filled with food, memories, family, friends and a little extra money!

My Mom and Aunt did the yard sale Friday. My bff another aunt and myself did it Saturday. Total sold was over $500 on Friday, nothing on Saturday. Our part of the total was $218.50. We had to have it inside as the rain was on it's way Friday and here most of the day of Saturday.

We always do better when we have it spread outside. Many of us still have more items to add and we have decided to spread it out again this coming weekend for those reasons.

My Daddy and I made our annual trip to get flowers for decorations. I so enjoy the time with just he and I. It reminds me of when I was little. We just talk and talk and it is a wonderful time! Things I feel that can not be said another time I can say then, for it is just he and I.

I finally have a outline of my work schedule for the summer and while not completely thrilled, it is okay.

Hubby and I spend a wonderful Saturday evening with our boys and family. Sunday was two decorations, where most of my Dad's people are buried (his parents, grandparents, etc.) It was so good to see some of his family we have not seen in a long while. Then we went to church with him. The boys were surprisingly good. They are use to a pentecostal church service and we were in my home church a Church of Christ. It is a very quiet service.

Then hubby and I took the boys to eat lunch (monkey had a complete meltdown and it was to-go boxes all around). Once outside he was fine. Then we went to Target and picked up some diapers while they were on sale. Then we went by 2 different set of friends homes for a visit and came back by Hubby's family cemetery (where his Mom was laid to rest). Decoration will be there next week. The we came home, had supper and tried to relax. Hubby found Braves tickets for our upcoming weekend getaway.

Yes, you read that last line right........a weekend getaway. It is only a couple of hours to Atlanta and that is where we are going in a couple of weeks! YEAH baby!!!! I am thrilled beyond words! My parents are keeping the boys! We have not been on vacation since the Spring before we found out we were expecting the boys. So, if you have any suggestions about Atlanta I am all ears! The only thing I do know at this point is we are going to see the braves play!

I hope you all have a blessed day and praise the Lord that our little Monkey will not have to go back to the doctor/hospital today!

I am going to spend some time with the boys, do laundry and i hope to get my menu planner done for May (I'm a little behind there) . I also need to make some calls and send some emails. If my mom will watch the boys I am headed to Rite Aid and CVS, the bank and probably Wal-Mart.

Blessings!!!!!!

Thursday - Sunday

Yesterday (Thursday), Monkey fell off of the couch and landed wrong. To make a long story short he almost broke his right foot. He has a bad sprain. We are home after a long ordeal at the doctor's office.

Hubby had to work from 6:30 am til 9pm yesterday and it was so hard on me. MY mom kept Tiger and my Dad went with me and monkey to the doctor's office.

We were all gearing up for the semi-annual yard sale (Friday) today (which I forgot to take pictures of). My Dad's sis came up and got my stuff last night and she and my mom put it out. There was tons of stuff there but only my aunt (my mom's sis) and mom to work it. Too much for two people, so my brother stayed home from the orchards today and helped out. The boys and I went and got breakfast for everybody this morning. Did I mention that I still have a twin size bed and more clothes to take over there? We stayed at the yard until Monkey had a COMPLETE meltdown. He has NEVER acted that bad ANYWHERE before. I know his foot is bothering him some.

The doctor said if he is still in pain, favoring it or it is swollen Monday to call and they will get us set up with a peds ortho dr at Children's hospital. He said the x-rays looked good but there is always that chance and since his foot just doesn't look right, then again there's that chance. Lovely just lovely!

Tomorrow is yard sale again (it is mostly indoors) and it is suppose to storm. hubby is home from work thankfully. I need a break and he told me to go and hang out at the yard sale. We will probably shut it down early. We never have a lot of business on Saturday usually. We also have to get decoration flowers for the 6 YES, 6 decorations we will have in the next 3 weeks. Sunday is 2 of those decorations and then we will go to preaching with my Dad at his church (where I was raised). We also have a lunch thing to attend that afternoon (with the boys no less).

I am way behind on dishes, laundry, ironing, etc. It will wait, I have to be right there with the boys......EVERY second it seems. Yesterday I was withing 5 feet of him when he fell. I had stepped over the baby gate to get a drink of water and before I knew it he was running on the long couch. I just couldn't catch him in time. I am still beating myself up over that.......

I just don't get it. You know there are "moms" in this world that don't love their kids and let them do whatever and you wonder if that child will "make it". Then there are the overprotective moms like me, that watch and guard their children will all of their heart and strength and they still get hurt. I feel like the worst Mommy sometimes.........

Have a good weekend! Blessings!!!!!

Happy National Day of Prayer

Today is the National Day of Prayer. I encourage each of you to pray today, throughout the day. We are facing hard times in this country and even more difficult given our choices to elect for president. My husband and I are having a very difficult time with the choice of canidates.

I hope you have a wonderful day and I am praying for all of my readers today as well. I do not know all of you by name or comment (since many of you never leave comments) but I am praying. You could make this a delurking post!;)

Hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day! Remember to pray!

  4. OPTIONAL: I add 3 slices of of a jalapeno for a hot taste.

  3. Drain beans
  4. Put one teaspoon of salt into each quart jar. (I use table salt)
