I have a deep dark secret that hardly anyone knows. I am about to reveal it for all of the world to read! I can cook anything. I have won contests and cooked for some famous people before. I even have a gourmet mix and food business. I have received more compliments for my cooking skills than I ever have anything else. Are you ready for this........
I cannot make homemade biscuits to save my life!
So, now you know my dirty little secret. The few times that I have attempted to make them they have been hard as a rock. Funny story........ The first time I made them several years ago they were so hard and my husband could not even cut one with a knife. So he throwing them out for our little dog. She went running when she saw the biscuits flying. Unfortunately she got in the line of fire and hubby accidently hit her in the head with one. Hard enough that she stumbled around a bit. Poor doggie!
Now, I want everyone to give me tips, recipes and suggestions........PLEASE!!!!!!! I love homemade biscuits, but need help!
Blessings!

This is one thing that I have recently just learned how to make. I use the Betty Crocker Baking Powder Biscuit Recipe, and it works great :)

I'm glad to hear that everyone is doing better and getting well. I don't make biscuits; I use Pillsbury. The ones in the freezer taste just like home-made; my mom (who cooks everything from scratch) even uses them!
HaHaHa- so that's your secret!
I love to make homemade biscuits, it's probably just pure luck that they turn out, Lol.

I cut the shortning in with a fork- smushing it against the side of the bowl. Sometimes I use the dough hook of my Kitchen Aid. A big thing is to know the consistency. I add flour until it is not sticky anymore then get it in a ball and roll it out. I only reroll one more time, then take the scraps and shape the last couple with the scraps to make a couple of really lumpy ones.
I decided years ago that I was going to make biscuits. My mama did not measure, she had a really big tupperware bowl that she kept the flour in and just made a well in the center and added the shortening and milk straight to that bowl. Somehow she just incorporated the right amount of flour to it and was left with a bowlful of flour for the future baking. She didn't roll them either- she just patted them into shape. She died so I never learned from her. I just made them over and over for a few days until I got them right. My two girls can make biscuits so i know you can do it.
Thanks mimi! I'll check it out!!!! Blessings!!!!!
You are too funny momtotwins!!!! You know as well as anyone how I do it all!!!! Blessings!!!!
Thanks for the confidence southerner! The tips are great too!! Blessings!!!!
Hi Marva!
That is too funny. My mom always talks about how her mom would make biscuits and how when she tried to make them the same way, they never turned out right. I remember watching my grandma make them. She did like Southerner said. She would put her mound of flour in her bread bowl. Push it out the sides. Grab a handful of crisco shortening and mold it together with the flour while pouring buttermilk in. Squishing it in her hands. Then she would form her biscuit and use some extra flour from the side, pat it down and they always turned out perfect. It looked so simple but it is not! I can only make drop cheese bisquits. I wish my grandma was still alive to teach me how. :)
How are you doing? I can only imagine with twins you are BUSY! One is keeping me running! :)
I cheat a little! I use Bisquick for my biscuits. They come out great every time! This method is not traditional homemade, but fresher and cheaper than store bought or the rolled fridge ones. Good luck
Hi Ivy! Maybe I can learn...I'm hoping anyhow! You'll have two before long! Blessings!!
Hi Melinda! Thanks for the tip! I can make drop biscuits, just not shaped ones.... LOL!!!! Blessings!!!
