Feeling The Strain

I seriously need to vent for a moment! I love being home with my boys!!! Love it! I will not change that for the world. They did go to preschool for four months so I could work on the farm and that was NOT a mistake. Their speech and social awareness are so, so much better.

We have blown through the savings from the summer of farm work.

However, things are getting tight........well, tighter! Sometimes, I wonder how large families make ends meet?! We have had some astronomical medical bills. Like over $35,000.00 out of pocket in the last 2 1/2 years (after insurance). Then hubby have knee surgery and all of the pt.....that was suppose to be covered by insurance but wasn't. GRRRRRR!

I was thinking, I'm not sure if i have ever told you or written here, but we did NOT qualify for WIC because hubby made too much. $13 a month too much. The boys formula when we had to pay full price was $120 or so a week. This did not include diapers. Tiger went through a pack a day some days because of the c. diff.

Yes, I know that I say God is good and he is, but I am human. I looked at our bills for this month and next and it stinks, just plain stinks. Can you smell it?

We have asked my parents to let us handle the dental bills (all $6600) of them. Yes, we have lost our minds. That will be on a dental card. Right now we are paying them still out of pocket. Yesterday was $279. Ouch. Hubby is not bringing home much more than that most weeks. There is little work in his company for him. You would be surprised at the companies that will not hire a wonderful 32 year hard worker that just had knee surgery 2 1/2 months ago.

Someone asked me what he does. He hauls hazardous waste. Right now he works out of a army depot and hauls waste water from the incineration plant. It could contain anything from mustard gas agents to other chemical agents. His pay stinks but this is how his company won the contract (with a low figure).
You would think that hauling this stuff the 2 hours to the only place in Alabama that accepts this type of waste would pay a little more than $195 per load (one load per day), wouldn't you?!!

Some drivers in his company haven't seen a paycheck in two weeks or so. He just happened to be on this run as a regular. Praise the Lord for that!

I really am not looking forward to budgeting for 2009! We owe little cc debt. Our vehicles and home are paid for. There is so much to be thankful for! Thanks for listening (reading) I feel so much better now.

How is the economy effecting your family? Many blessings!

I hear you! I'm stressed and broke too. I sometimes think about going back to work, but with 2 kids in day care, I wouldn't bring home much.

The holidays seem to bring added stress, and everyone just wants more and more. Yeah I'm super stressed too!

Marva,

I totally understand where you are coming from, most months we just break even. November and December are expensive months for us because of the holidays and property taxes. If you have any great money saving tips please share them with us. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Take Care
Michelle

Marva, Sunday the 30th Pottery Barn is having a class/demonstration on decorating for Christmas. The bad part is that it is at 10:00. I wanted to invite you. Connie from Laughter by Lakeside and Valarie Lea from Tennessee are planning on coming. We thought we would go to lunch after the hour long class. If you can make it let me know.

Now, I totally understand what it feels like to look at the bills and see your life sinking. Last year with two payments I had the same thing happening. I seriously looked and we did not have enough to make a lot of months but somehow(God) we made it. His promise is to provide food for you and your shelter is there. All the other stuff is that... stuff. Your boys are small and if you only buy them a couple of lower priced toys they will not know the difference. Dave Ramsey always says to make sure the basics are met so you can fight another day... food, lights, utilities. It is so good that y'all don't have a house payment! Y'all rock. You will make it, you will make it, are you repeating after me? You will make it.

Well I have to say that the economy is not effecting us at all. I give God all the praise. Hubby is working long long hours as you know. I have been blessed in that we have not had financial struggles at all in the 19 years we have been married.

Praying things will get better for you.

We are doing o.k. so far . . . our company used to be seasonal, but has expanded to busy all but two months of the year. This is a blessing as we used to only have business from April through July or possibly August.

We have savings and hope to not need to dig into it.

To say we aren't concerned with Obama in office would be a lie . . . we are quite concerned.

He decided to go back to school for a certification in the medical field. After paying to register at 2 universities and paying for 3 classes.....the state said oops...we made a mistake we don't pay for any of that....His unemployment is on hold....their faith is getting them thru...they have 2 precious children who do weel in school and sports and that came be very expensive. Thankfully their health and dental insurance is thru my daughters employer- but they too are having to start putting things on credit cards to get by.

Marva, you can definitely believe God is good, and still worry and stress a little! I think we all do that, or at least I do.

We live on a very tight budget since we only have one income (uncommon in these parts). There are times I don't know how we're going to make the bills, but we for the most part do. I quess I'm somewhat used to it by now, so as long as I can pay the main bills, and we have gleaners to help some with food, this is where we are at this time in our life.

We have very little debt, but do NOT own a home or anything of much value as far as assets. Like I said, this is where we are until my kids are to the age where I can work a job outside the home. These are definitely tough times for many.
